What are bio-identical (human identical) hormones?
Bioidentical hormones are structurally and molecularly identical to human body produced hormones. They replicate actions of human hormones because they are in fact, the normal hormones your body recognizes. These hormones bind normally to the receptor sites, are efficiently utilized, and naturally detoxified and eliminated. This minimizes the side effects and risk of treatment while restoring healthy, youthful tissue function. Bioidentical hormones can be tailored to match an individual’s needs through testing and custom compounding. It is then delivered to the body in safe manners. Synthetic hormones, on the other hand, with an altered molecular structure are not recognized by enzyme systems or receptors in the same fashion. Their actions are not straightforward and they are not detoxified from the body easily. Side effects are common with these ‘foreign’ hormones. Not only are they prescribed as a “one size fits all" approach; there are no accurate laboratory testing possibilities since they are foreign molecules.
