The peri-menopausal years
Perimenopausal problems frequently begin 10-15 years before menopause. Increasing variations of pulsating estrogen, along with falling progesterone levels can impact the emotional and physical symptoms in women. In addition, accumulative stress causes neural circuit changes that initiate adrenal dysfunction and hormonal imbalances are experienced. This leads to a worsening of hot flushes, anxiety issues, disturbed menstrual periods and a persistent fatigue. During this time period, women often experience reduced libido, stress intolerance, mental and or physical fatigue, vaginal dryness and frequent depression. To make matters worse, thyroid dysfunction frequently follows leading to an increasing weight gain and a taxing energy drop.
