What is andropause?

Andropause is the insidious loss of the androgenic male hormone levels causing a host of symptoms and serious disease processes that can ultimately be life threatening, such as prostate cancer, heart disease and diabetes.

Testosterone, the important male hormone reaches its peak level levels at puberty. Contrary to a popular belief, a man’s testosterone level is progressively declining throughout life.

There is about 1-1.5 % annual drop in testosterone production starting around age 30. Most of this decline is directly due to a progressive loss of the testosterone produced and processed in the testes, the brain and pituitary signals. This functional decline is the basis of clinical “Andropause.”

The clinical manifestations of the progressive male hormone deficiency can lag 10-20 years after the onset of the hormone decline. Andropause is manifested as a progressive decrease in energy, vitality, sexual performance, and muscle mass. The progressive loss of testosterone and alteration of the male hormonal balance leads to an increase in insulin resistance, cardiovascular disease, apathy, depression, anxiety, irritability and mental/emotional capacity. Too often there is a concurrent deficiency state in growth hormone secretion that makes the Andropause state worse. All hormone deficiency states are best balanced back to optimal levels to reverse disease states and improve a man's total vigor and health.

Statistically: Andropause affects at least
30% of men in their 40's
50% of men aged 55-65
and up to 80% of those aged 65 years or more.
