Hormone Balancing for Women

Hormone replacement therapy was called into serious question when the results of the Women’s Health Initiative Trial were publically released. This study was done hoping to show synthetic hormones would reduce health risks and benefit women following menopause. The study compared two groups. One group consisted of post menopausal women who were not given hormone replacement. The other group consisted of women prescribed synthetic hormone replacement after menopause.

Breast cancer, heart disease, strokes and Alzheimer’s disease rates were significantly increased in the women administered the pharmaceutical synthetics, Premarin and Provera. In response, millions of women and their physicians abandoned all hormone restoration.

So why did synthetic hormone replacement not show benefit in this study? Is any hormone restitution therapy safe?

  • Synthetic hormones are structurally and molecularly different to human hormones. They act differently and are more difficult to break down

  • The synthetic estrogen in the study was administered by mouth. Any estrogen, and as well, testosterone, absorbed by way of the intestinal tract initially travels in high concentration to the liver first. This high hormone concentration in the liver stimulates an abnormally high production of inflammatory signaling proteins and clotting factors responsible for accelerated cardiovascular disease and alterations of metabolism.

  • Provera, the progesterone substitute used in the study is a synthetic progestin, not progesterone. These molecules actually block progesterone’s access to the progesterone receptor, causing a functional progesterone deficiency state. Not only does progesterone’s ability to beneficially balance estrogen becomes severely hampered, progestins have many negative anti-progesterone affects contributing to many of the negative affects identified in the WHI study.

  • The WHI trial’s design, based on common conventional medical practice, did not include hormone measurements to determine treatment or confirm treatment. Women were likely overdosed, leading to further toxicity. In addition, some women were under-dosed.

The goal of proper interventional hormone restoration should consist of the restoration of human identical hormones for balance and control of symptoms. Hormone deficiency diseases need to be monitored so hormone levels are delivered in a safe manner.

HORMONES DEFINED
The final effect of any hormone is the balance of all of your hormones. No hormone acts by itself. It is a symphony that is either in harmony or discordant.
